   Putting - Club Face Aim

Is your clubface aiming ;

(a) Where you think it should be at the set up?
(b) And most importantly at your target line at impact?

One of the single biggest mistakes is to either sub consciously open or close the putter face at impact. This will obviously cause the ball to…miss!

Technically what might help?

  1. Having your dominant eye over the ball will most probably help you to appreciate your putting lines better. Place a ball under your eye and drop it on the ball.

  2. Flat back, flat neck. Very important and as you can see from the photos most of the top putters find themselves in this position. The putter will work in a straighter path just before and just after impact which will lead to square face contact.
  3. Sounds funny, but in your practice stroke,picture a square face at impact!

Drill

This on is used by Tiger Woods quite a bit and should help you to get used to having a square blade when you need one!

Place 2 tee pegs in the ground approx 4 ft from the hole and just wider than a putter head. Make sure the tees and putter head are perpendicular to the target.

 A straight putt works best. Try to hit putts through the tees and it will give you a good visual on a square impact
