Welcome to the travel section!

My first exposure to travel was thanks to golf and I would have to say now its something I greatly enjoy. Without golf I feel I would not have got the chance to see and travel to the places I have been.

Its fitting therefore that the man who invited me to play my first overseas pro-am is our web-site travel partner Sean Skehan and Killester Travel.

Along with Sean and the team we provide trips to different destinations for golf and instructional schools combined (see testimonies).

Its my pleasure therefore to introduce to you Killester Travel and Sean Skehans world of golf.

“David and I have been friends for many years now and I am delighted with our association as golf travel partners. The overseas golf instruction trips combine great golf, instruction and travel.

Enjoy your travels,
Sean Skehan

South Africa

As I am just back from South Africa it seems like a great place to begin.
I spent a week there in mid October at the world amateur team championships and was reminded of what a great destination it is, my first visit  there being in 2003.
On this occasion the golf was played in the wine country about 1 hr east of the wonderful city of Cape Town.

Stellenbosch golf club is a beautiful parkland course on the outskirts of the town. A good tree lined track, it hosted the South African open in 1999, won by local member and area resident David Frost. The 1999 champion now runs his own winery up the road at paarl and as well as doing some tasting you can also check out his trophy cabinet. Food and caddies at the club are both great and if you like an old fashioned course this may be the one for you.

De zalze www.dezalzegolf.com  golf club backs on to stellenbosch and is more of a modern type course with a little more room and a more modern lay out. Greens are very good and the pasta in the clubhouse is superb!

Accommodation and food;
I stayed in the Lanzerac Hotel and Winery www.lanzerac.co.za  on the edge of stellenbosch and it’s a great place for a bit of peace and quiet plus obviously has some very nice local wines to sample. Breakfast is superb but dinner is both quite formal and forgettable.

Bhukara North Indian cuisine on Dorp Street offers fantastic food at very reasonable prices and the Stellenbosch Hotel does a great lunch on the veranda as you watch Stellenbosch go by.
As you will see from the book section I have a keen interest and the verbatim across the road from the hotel is an alladins cave of new and old titles.
For some fun, the cape town fish market offers a sushi bar and a fish stand where you pick your fish. Good service also.
