Welcome to the links section which will contain tips on both which links to play and when you get there, how to play them!.
Links golf is special and as we have 40% of the worlds links courses in Ireland we are in a position that is the envy of many.
Our partners in the links section are North and West coast links. Click here to visit their great website.
DKgolfs Top Links Tips
- If you like to put the ball back in your stance to help de-loft the club and keep the ball low, make sure you don't hit the ball too hard as the harder you hit it the more spin you will create and the ball will rise. Putting the ball back steepens the angle of attack and de-lofts the face (see instruction intro on ball flight laws) which is quite effective if you hit the ball with moderate acceleration.Just take an extra club or two and keep it clow, smooth and in balance

- Plan your shots very carefully in Links golf. Sometimes, as we know the yardage book goes out the window and you can be surprised at how far/short the ball can travel. With your short shots/chips and runs, try to "see" the ball on the ground workingits way toward the hole before you play it.
- Whenever it's practical, putt from off the green. The old adage "a bad putt is as good as a good chip" is particularly good advice off hard, bare lies.
- Dress appropriately. We lose our body heat through our head and a little through our next so wooly hats and polo necks all round!.
- Playing a hole thats lined with dunes can be deceptive. Often when its down wind the ball is sucked below the dunesand never reaches its full flight to gain it's distance. You probably have experienced the phenomenon and apparently it's not alone to golf. When a helicopter is flying in a valley it is sucked down if you like. So keep an eye on this and try not to be deceived.
- Hold off your follow through. If you are strong enough, play those punch shots by "parking" your follow through. This helps us feel the sensation of leading with our hands through impact and keeping a low dynamic loft through the shot thus keeping the ball down. Static loft is the loft of the club before we begin the swing and dynamic loft is the clubs loft at impact.

- Use a club less than you think you need from the rough and you will get more run as well as a better contact from the rough.
- Practice from the beach. If you ever get a chance, hit some balls from the sand and it will really step up your ball striking. You can also chip and putt on the sand but just make sure its hard baked sand and no one is around!.
